Mermaid Cake & Cupcakes

A Mermaid Birthday Cake to celebrate the 7th birthday of my youngest daughter. She loves all things mermaid and unicorn! This year she decided that she wanted a mermaid-themed cake since she had already done the unicorn cake for her 5th birthday.

Honestly, I’ve been wanting to try my hand at a mermaid cake. Initially, I was just planning to make a layer cake and maybe place a few fondant cutouts around it. But then I thought about the Hello Kitty & Spirited Away cakes I made and figured I’d try my hand at carving a full mermaid. Using a clipart image as inspiration, I printed out an enlarged version and used it as a template.

My baby girl was over the moon when she saw the cake! I must admit that I’m rather pleased with how it turned out too!
